Hi can anyone please help or advise if they have the same smell. When we start the car and after short journeys there is a strong smell of petrol, we've had it checked but can't find any leaks. Our MPG is also low 20's so is this a leak???
Thanks in advance for any help or advise anyone can offer.

Hi,
I had a similar issue just over a year back on my 1999 2.0 petrol.
Warped petrol tank, the seal between the fuel level sender and the tank goes.
Remedy: new tank and sender unit. £500.

The only good news is the fix has lasted 13 months on mine.

hi there, hope this helps, the fuel tank sender and pump is placed in top of fuel tank, the supply out pipe to engine is under high pressure when engine is running! this pipe splits at the very top, allowing fuel to escape!! took a while to find as leak was very small to start with!!you will need to drop tank and check very carefully, part is expensive[around£200], so ebay could be cheap source from breaker!! fault is caused by vibration of pipe connected to the outlet of pump!!
good luck,don't smoke when fixing!!

We had same problem. It was a crack in the plastic pipe on the fuel pump which sits inside the petrol tank. It broke off in my fingers when I removed it (had to lower fuel tank to do this). When I ordered a replacment (2nd hand) that too had a small crack on it so I covered it with strong glue. Carefully pushed the hose over it and smell stopped! Good luck.
