just bought I have a 1999 Scenic 1.6

is it normal that when it is in idle, its reving at about 10k - sometimes lower than that ? it also sometimes jumps between 7 and 10k and you could feel that.

also when i start it in the morning - it stays on 5k and sometimes goes off 2-3 times then jumps to 10k and its fine.

do you know what could be the cause of that ? it's not been serviced for about 20k miles - is that could be the fault ?

Do you know if you have the 1.6 16 valve K4M engine? as 1999 was the change over year from the 1.6 8 valve engines.

its the 16v engine. it is 1999 but first registration was on 23rd of Dec 1999

You have an early Mk1 Phase 2 Scenic then.

The problem might be the throttle body seal then? Which a large O ring type seal as they get hard and deform and can cause an air leak. Though the problem could also be the throttle control valve which is on the drivers side of the air box.
