Hi all,

Hope ive posted this in the correct place. Ive recently become the proud owner of a Renault Megane 2002 MK 1 . However upon driving home from work the other day I noted a sound which I can only describe as a "Hissing" noise when i turned the wheel.

However this noise only occurs when I’m turning the wheel right and at very low speed e.g. Less than 10 mph. If I try and turn the wheel right when parked the noise is very loud. This has left me greatly confused as i would have thought if there was a problem with the power steering e.g. the pump or the rack then it would affect me turning the wheel in either direction.. Also the steering does not feel any heavier..

any ideas anyone, I’m at a loss...

Silly question I know, but have you checked for leaks and the fluid level, a burst hose can cause a "hissing" sound in one direction
