Around a week ago my car (2006 dci106 megane) started making a tappety type noise upwards of 2000 revs. This has gradually progressed into the exhaust note getting much louder and deeper, along with a near complete loss of power. Any suggestions ? could it be the turbo ? i have read througha lot of threads but none mention the change in exhaust note and noise.

ps, there is no smoke

Has the EGR valve been checked?

Not yet ! Im going to take a dive under the car this afternoon. I hadnt considered the EGR. I am also renewing my waranty today as it ran out around a week ago ! so obviously cant take it straight in.

my exhaust sounds like its blowing aswell and has gone very loud and deep, could i have destroyed my cat ?
just makiing sure i explore all options before the turbo
