Hello Renault blokes and blokettes!
I am strongly thinking of getting and engine remap done on my Grand Scenic Privilege 1.9 Dci but am still hovering.
What are peoples experiences?
I am thinking of using Celtic ( a mobile firm) who seem to have very good rep.

I am still a little worried that although the remap is still only supposed to change things within manufactures tolerances that it will still give a lot more wear and tear on the clutch etc.

Any advice gratefully recieved - and if anyone is thinking of getting it done too then maybe we can do a bulk order.

So - what are the Pros and Cons?
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

In my opinion, you'd be better advised to invest in a tuning box rather than a re-map.There have been a great deal of positive comments made about them on the forum, and I'm not really sure that a re-map would be quite so successful.

Others may disagree,though.:)

Cheers. What other reasons are there to go for the box though.
The remap quote I've got is £360.
The posts I have seen tend to say the opposite too and I am a little uneasy about doing anything physical.

The remap quotes an extra 40 BHP and 55 torque...

Hi i drive 2002 Espace 2.0 16v and i have had it chipped by superchips up here in Scotland but my car is petrol a chip and a remap is one of the same thing they both involve going into your ECU and changing all and most of the factory settings, when its all done you can return and have the remap adjusted but at a cost every time you go back, the BHP on a diesel is greater than a petrol and the same as a tune box is only for diesels but i dout you will get as much BHP as you said once its down at the wheels, the tune box can be plugged in and out as you please:) tune boxes and chips and remaps which still requires a chip can indeed be bad for your car more fuel more air faster car running hotter and if you are giving it all the time iam sure there will be longterm damage but if you are just using it as normal and using it just for the little bit extra boot so speak all will be well,i know when we used to chip the rally cars we also used high pressure gaskets as well but your not going to be doing 5 stages a day over 3 days and trying to win the British tarmac championship:d i hope this helps all the best Donald.

Yeah, thanks.
Really I am getting to help towing but I must admit the extra boost round and about will be very nice too.

So, all in all it seems to be a personal preference.

Cheers

What kind of mielage have you done since you had your Espace done. Presumably you are still happy and have not noticed anything untoward?

Mate, if you mail Celtic tuning at
Celtic Tuning - Performance Remap Specialists (there is a link somewhere there) they tell you exactly what they can do for your car and the price.
I got quoted £360 but havent had the bottle to do it yet.
They said an extra 40 BHP and 55 torque which sounded really nice for me on my Grand Scenic - I need it for towing too.

Hi tinker to be very honest for £300 i would say its not worth the money, dont get me wrong there is a difference and it is in that it fills the weak spots in and aids here into working that bit harder and not giving it the chance to slack off if you know what i mean rather than waiting for a response from the engine its there as soon as you need it i would not of chipped my car other than because the van iam towing is 1400kg when ladened and you know she is there all the time i have had other vans but she is very heavy for here size i hope this helps all the best Donald.

I have a 2005 Grand Scenic 1.9dCi dynamique 130, i had a remap done on mine at Chip n Spin and then tested on a rolling road, results were great 172 BHP and additional 65 torks, but it does increase wear on engine parts (not clutch, as that is down to how you drive it) Glow plugs start to fail about every 6k miles, and brakes are about every 12k miles....

scenic remap

Hi, i have a 2005 scenic 1.9dci privilege 120ps, i am also looking at a remap or tuning box, there seems to be plenty of options available. At the moment a tuning box between 80 and 150 seems to present good value and apparently would result in 143 bhp and about 50 more torque, apparently these work by over fueling. A remap is expensive but gives a little more, unsure of the long term benefits/drawbacks of both. I would not hammer the vehicle but its nice to know its there when u need it, also i would like to know how it can improve mpg, anyone out there know?

Tuning Box

I also looked at the tuning boxes, but found that re-mapping for the renault diesel engines is relatively cost effective anyway, my re-map cost £275. If you require more MPG do not go for the all out pow Map that i bought, i would suggest a mid range map should increase power by about 15% and torq by about 25. But we are lucky owning these great cars, as there are many options available, you may also consider when haveing it mapped change the air filter to a K&N panel this will help the engine bbreathe correctly after the Map is done (locally £38) also if you are really adventurous you can have the particle filter(diesel CAT) removed from your exhaust system(adds 15BHP) but this will increase fuel consumption slightly.

remap etc

Hi There, 275 for a remap seems very fair, to be honest i think they're all veyr expensive for what you get as its just software, but then maybe its the rolling road time? who did your remap and what output did u end up with? i don't think the 120ps version has the FAP, but i could be wrong.
