Hello all,

hope one of you can help. Friend of mine who is a learner driver bought last week a Renault Clio 1.6e RT auto on a 1999 T reg with just 36,000 miles and full RMDSH. Anyway I took her out in the car yesterday and it overheated. Steam was coming out from the expansion tank cap. Checked all hoses and was all OK, but as it was dark when it happened could not do much. Has anyone got any idea's? I am thinking it could be the thermostat.

Yes do not use the car until thermostat has been replaced or you will destroy the weak head gasket on these 8 valve engines.

Thanks Adam. Yes I am aware of that. It was dark when it happened. I did feel all the hoses and the bottom hose on the radiator which would be cold if it was the thermostat was warm, but no where near as hot as the other hoses so I still think thermostat. I will fit a new thermostat anyway as they are not that expensive and go from there.
