Hi
My 52 plate Renault Clio has a fault where it just keeps cutting out! Stalls at any time and the engine manement light flickers and then stays on! it will restart straight away but stalls as soon as I try to pull away! Sometimes takes as long as 20 mins to be able to go! I've had a cheap diagnostic check but the garage says there's no fault registered. Will I have to pay for a full check and if so how much should I expect to pay please?

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

There are a couple of well known issues with Clio 2 1.2 16 valves, one being the connection to the TDC Sensor and the other a problem with the engine wiring loom either chaffing near the ECU or corroding at pretty much any place but especially as it runs over the gearbox and to the relay box in front of the battery. If you look at the ECU (right at the back of the engine bay,it has two wiring plugs to it) check that the metal protection sleeves haven't come loose and started to cut their way through the looms.

If nothing obvious is found, then find a more clued up independant garage or Renault specialist with a Renault specific code reader/scanner.Costs will vary between £25 and £40.A main dealer will charge upwards of £80 to plug your car in.....
