sorry that was me rushing, should of said my wife ah. so is it a renault jobbie or can anyone test the outputs ? if pump how much roughley are we talking about? many thanks for your help and adviceWho is My - only joking.
I take it the car has electric powered steering. If so its either likely to be a voltage fault or a motor problem. As repairing the motor is an expensive fix it may be worth getting the battery and alternator voltage outputs checked first.![]()
just found a place that sells recon pumps £105 with 12 month or 18000mile gaurentee. ive seen people selling them on fleebay with ecu so would i need both if its the pump?. just been told by person we bought car from he never fitted new battery and he owned it for a few years and we have had it 16 months so with luck it might be that. many thanks for all your help my friend its very apreciated, atvb, chris.Any decent auto-spark should be able to test the battery and alternator voltage.
Replacment steering motors ain't cheap - I reckon £600 plus from Monsiuer Renault. There is a company called BBA Reman who can apparently repair the systems but you will still need to have it removed and refitted. It may well be worth phoning around a gew good independent garages.![]()
ok will do, going to take it 9am in the morn then i should know abit more, many thanks again, chris. You haven't got a pump as such, there is an electric motor which works directly on the colomn to give you steering assistance.
As MN says, have the alternator output checked before spending any money on the car,if the alternator is getting weak then the steering will cut out.
i will let you all know tomorrow. thats why i love this forum so much as everyone is so friendly and helpfull and well done to you all, atvb, chris.Let us know how you get on.
If the alternator and battery are find then you will need to have the faults read from the system, this will need a Renault specific scanner though.I'd definately try a local Renault specialist as they should have the equipment needed.Hopefully it'll be the alternator though.
Good luck.![]()
