Does anyone know how to remove the outside door handle from the bodywork?

I'm trying to replace the central locking mechanism on the driver's side door of my '03 Espace and I can't figure out how to get the actual door handle off, it's kind of stopped me in my tracks.

I've got the door panel off, and have access to the inside of the door, I've disconnected the mechanism from the door and disconnected the inside door handle from the mechanism, but I can't seem to disconnect the outside door handle.

The cable which connects the lock mechanism and the door handle is secured with a rubber plug and can only be pulled off in one direction, unfortunately this direction is obscured by the door and the whole handle needs to be removed in order to do it (as far as I can tell, anyway).

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to remove the door handle from the bodywork? I've found a small torx screw behind a plastic cover which I've tried unbolting, but it only comes out so far and then stops, I have a feeling this does something important which allows the handle to be removed, but I can't figure out what.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks.
