I have an imported Renault Master 2006 automatic 2.5DCI (its a campervan manufactured in Germany)

Its service history has been lost and so i dont know if/when it needs a cam belt change.

I called Renault UK as they dont know if the model has a belt or a chain as the information they have is limited on the vehicle.

Is there any way i can find out if it has a belt or chain without taking it to a garage?

Thanks

If the timing (chain/belt) cover is metal it's chain driven, and if its plastic it's got a belt..

Be on the left side of the engine where the auxiliary belts are. Problem hidden from view by the engine mount on your image.

Under the casting with the "X" ribs on it. You may be able to tap it with a screwdriver and tell what the material is.
