Renault Master Air suspension
Hi, I have just part exchanged my Renault Kangoo for a 2007 Renault Master swb 100 cd1 Automatic or Tiptronic not sure how they are described now.

Anyway, this has air suspension, i don't know the first thing about it, apparently it has a compressor underneath, the problem is this, since i bought it on Friday, i have not been able to figure out how to raise the body up again, as at the moment, the rear is sitting only a few inches off the ground and i am worried about driving it, in case the underneath catches on something.

I have looked in the Renault owners manual, in the section relating to air suspension, it describes how to raise and lower the suspension, but i cannot see the switch that they describe anywhere.

The switch has a symbol on it like heater, but i can't find one on the dash like it.

There is a switch, which has Kg stamped on it, i don't know what this is for.

The vehicle has been converted for wheelchair use by Holden conversions, if that means anything to anyone.

I have my mobility scooter in the back at the moment, but i am worried about lowering the Ricon lift down, as the back of the van is so low to the ground.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Re: Renault Master Air suspension
Could anyone please tell me if it is possible to have the air suspension removed and normal coil springs and shock absorbers fitted.

Would this be a very costly job, apart from springs and shock absorbers, what other parts are needed.

Could anyone please tell me roughly what the cost to do this would be.

Many thanks

Disability converted vehicles can have some massive modifications so you may be better asking the company who did the conversion. It may not be as simple to revert some aspects of the vehicle back to original. In fact some disability converted vehicles are bespoke to each user so what suits their needs may not suit whoever wishes to use it later. For instance my sister-inlaw has a special electric wheelchair built to suit her specific needs but a neighbour of hers has an disability adapted Puegot but her wheelchair just doesn't fit safely - in fact her chair is almost twice the weight of what the Puegot can safely manage.

The air suspension system is used on some ambulances so I would strongly recommend you seek advice from a specialist company. Vehicle conversion is a very specialist field and unless a member of the forum has relevant experience of such then you may not get an answer to your query. And even at that it may be difficult to give good advice as they neither know your partcular vehicle or your particular needs.

In the interests of safety I would urge you to seek specilist advice.

Hi Noel, Thank you very much for your reply.
Both my wife and myself are disabled, my wife uses an electric wheelchair and i use a mobility scooter.

We have had a Ricon wheelchair lift fitted in the rear of the vehicle, therefor we do not need the air suspension and probably all the problems that go with it, plus from what we have read, it takes a long time for the vehicle body to raise up in the morning.

I have still not been able to find the switch, which is supposed to raise the body up.

hi all, my battery died the other day and my neighbour gave me a jump start, now my compressor for the air suspension won't run.
it is a 2004 renault master ex ambulance.
i've checked the compressor and it's fine, i could only find one 30amp fuse and that was fine. there is a clicking noise from the unit and if i put my hand on it i can feel the unit clicking as if it wants to start but something is stopping it. any ideas i'm really stuck here. thanks

hi tazman, my name is dan, i am a ex ambulance mechanic, and have specialist dealings with ambulance air suspension and renault / vauxhall commercials.

couple of questions.
1. where abouts are you based?
2. do you know the make of air suspension that is on there? (probably glide-rite or a renault one)

it is possible to remove the air suspension and put it back to normal springs and shocks, so not to panic there. (i have done this a couple of times, and also have changed them for uprated springs)

if you need any help or advice, just ask!

Hi Dan could you advise me on which fuse would kill the power to the air compressor. It's a Renault Master 2007 2.5 passenger transport ambulance. Thanks
