Just got a 2000 scenic 1.6

I have my suspicions that the water pump is leaking.

If it is, how har is it to change the water pump?

Is it a DIY on the driveway job?

Cheers

If it is faulty i could try taking it back where we got the car from but that would mean travelling a fair way and there would be bridge toll fees involved.

If i could do it myself i would probably have a go.

My dad and i changed a front anti roll bar on a 53 plate Skoda Octavia last weekend and that was pretty difficult i can tell you.

Going to check the car tomorrow to see if it is leaking or not.

I think i have been seeing things.

It seems ok today, no signs of leak at all.

Will keep a check of it anyway.

Thanks again

Not a driveway job allow a weekend and you will need to buy the kit for cam belt replacement. Not an easy job be prepared for bruised arms.

Dont forget to let sealant cure before refitting water pump found out to my cost and to redo it all.

should also replace auxiliary belt at same time. Find youself a warm garage for a few days.

good luck

Hi there,

it can be a tricky job changing the water pump as you have to remove the cam belt to get to it. And as the cambelt is off you mightaswell replace it. You can salvage the old one (dependant on condition) but as it can cause serious damage if one snaps :( it's always best to fit new. :)

All depends how handy you are with a spanner so to speak! Your dad sounds like he knows his way around a car too, and it is always better to have help to hand. good to keep a haynes to hand and study up on the changing timing belt section! Obviously some good tools are needed, a good selection of spanners, socket set and scredrivers etc etc. Shouldn't need anything specialist to do te job, but you might need to make a cam lock out of a strip of steel.

If it's your first time replacing a cambelt give yourself a good day to do it. The job can take about 4-5 hrs for a good DIYer!! A day should be plenty especialy with help.

Just as long as you get the timing right putting the cambelt back on you will be fine. It's not hard to do and haynes has a good description of how to set it all up. A good tip is to put tipex marks on the cam pullies and crank pully with alligning marks on the engine, so you know everything lines up perfectly when fitting the new belt.

Good luck with the job.
