Hi
My '98 Megane Scenic RT failed its MOT today on emissions.
the chap in the "National Tyres"garage said, that from experience he reckons its the Lambda sensor....
does that make sense to anyone?

the MOT failure certificate says the following;
"001 Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits [7.3.2b]"

so my second question is, how much do they cost?
are they really expensive?

he said he needs to get one from a Renault dealer as the local parts place told him you can only get one from a dealer as a "universal" one wont do, and will call me tomorrow morning with the price

please help!!

thank you!!!

As Chris says, the universal Lambda sensors aren't much cop.

Aftermarket ones are available with the correct plug on it so you don't have to cut and join any wires. These are around the £40-£50 mark.:)(available from any good motor factors)

Good luck.:)

ok, problem
National Tyres says, that Renault said, that its £220 for one from them!
anyone know where i can get one cheaper?
i need the original fit, not a universal
the only one i could find was this...

http://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/Products.aspx?Man=RENAULT&Mod=MEGANE%20SCENIC&Ser=MEGANE%20SCENIC%201.6%20e%20MPV&Year=01/97%20>%2009/99&BHP=66&HP=90&CC=1598&Cylinders=04&Valves=8&VID=05655&typep=LambdaSensors

also how easy are they to change?
chap in national tyres said its easy, and if i fit it, they'll re-test for MOT...
anyone got a guide on how to do this?
(prefereably with pictures as im not experienced;) )

ive got 9 days to do this or ill have to pay to re-MOT :(

thanks chaps

Hi there I got my one done last year and it cost me £90 from main dealer and another £80 labour.
After that the car passed with no probs.

Hello Edwin, i fitted an NGK sensor to my father in laws last year. Just phoned the place that i got it from, approx £50+VAT for the sensor. I fitted it myself, quite easy to do. Where in the UK are you ?
Regards Damian. :)

hi everyone
sorry for taking ages to reply

the solution in the end was simple!

i took the car to a local garage and told him what national tyres had said
he said he doubted it was the lambda sensor

he started the car...said "can you hear that"?
i couldnt hear anything!
he showed me that the exhaust was blowing a little

he did the emissions test...it failed (no surprise)
patched up a hole in the back box...it passed!
so got a new one fitted £53 inc fitting
took it back to national tyres for re-test...passed :)

i want to thank you all here for all your help....
you all been very very helpful

thanks again:d

i just had to buy a lambda sensor for my 16e engine and it cost me £44.80 trade price. retail price is £64. these are not dealer prices. avoid the so called universal sensors. if yours is the same engine as mine the NGK / NTK part number is OZA446-E8 and the stock number is 1827
go to this site to find out everything about lambda sensors

£80 to fit a lambda sensor. i hate to say this but you got conned. it only takes 2 or 3 minutes. all you need is a 22mm spanner:crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy:
