hi guys found yet another problem with my 2001 rx4 1.9 dci.....
a whistling noise from the engine when under acceleration..
Having done a bit of research it turns out that this could be the turbo on its way out. ok question 1 could someone post a small picture of where the turbo actually is (i feel really stupid asking this), 2.. is changing it myself an option or should i get a garage to do it. i have some engineering background (i fix helicopter electronics) so if it's just basic bolts off, bolts on i shouldnt have a problem. final question... i cant seem to find a haynes type manual for my car, is it covered in the megane manual or not?
many thanks.

I've only just joined your forum, partly due to my own problems but, having had a turbo bearing go last November so ruining the seal and flooding the exhaust with oil I had the same problem.
1st, Haynes don't do a manual for the RX4,
2nd, Renault quoted me £1,500 for a new one when I had a copy supplied and fitted for £650 but have had a repacement seal under the turbo g'tee and 3rd, it's tucked away way down the back and I would not advise you to fit it unless your really handy!.

Definately agree that turbo replacement is a fairly involved job and not for the faint hearted.

There is a manual for the Lag 2 which covers dCi engines, but how much detail is included I don't know.

I would book it into a recommended independant garage or Renault specialist.:)
