Title is pretty explanatory. At first I thought this sound was grit hitting the car whilst driving but it is deffinitely a faint electrical crackling in the drivers door.

Any ideas what it might be before i start ripping the door panel off to have a look?

many thanks

Personally I'd be ripping the panel off if I was certain it was electrical crackling.
If you can hear crackling it is because something is arcing...ie sparks jumping.
That can quickly lead to significant damage, even a fire.

Electrically you have switches, speakers and the window motor and Temic unit plus associated wiring.
Temic Unit is notorious for poor connections (its the module that piggybacks on the window motor)
Speakers can give weird cracking sounds.
Or may be something else such as the plastic shielding split and making a noise.
Or a marble/nut/grit in the bottom of the door.
