Another moan about my car. On an 03 its the newest car ive ever bought. ive recently qualified as a driving instructor so im being very picky.... but i think when dealing with learners its important ot get it all just right.

This time im thinking about trying to teach them to move off. Obviously a lot of it is about getting the right revs. When im driving i aim for 1300ish revs to shift me. With this car though, i doesnt like gentle revs!

It idles well at just under 1000rpm then with a delicate touch of the pedal it yoyos unp and down between 1500 and 1000rpm. Only settles enough to move away smoothly at about 2000revs.

It does get a lot better once car is warm but still caatches me sometimes!

Any thoughts?

Hi f8rdy

Well done on passing the instructors test...you need the patients of a saint for that course and test.

Now about the revs going up and down, just a thought but maybe the air filter needs changing a blocked up one would cause a rich mixture and would cause the effect you mention.

Any other thoughts?

:) :)

Automatic choke fault or an air leak on the inlet manifold?

Both would cause the idling to be a bit erratic (especially when cold).
