Thought some of you folks out there would like to see what happens when a cambelt gives way:

After extensive open-engine surgery this one only needed a new set of valves (and a new cambelt kit).

We think the cambelt snapped on start-up, which kept the damage to a minimum. Still nasty though! :crying:

It would be interesting to know for folks pushing their luck how many miles had the car done, & what was the age of the vehicle.

It's also another thing to look for in a car's history if you're buying with mileage above 70,000.

Kind of makes me glad I've got a chain!

I have seen the damage done to a 306 hdi that went when I was doing about 80 on the motorway (was a pool car I was using when mine was being fixed).

They just bunged another engine in it!

Out of interest, how much was the cost on this job?
