I have been told by the local garage that my power steering rack is leaking fluid on the drivers side. He says to remove the rack is a nightmare job and to get rid of the car :(

I want to try and do it as i have done most other major jobs on it. Anyone have experience of replacing one, or know if i can just replace the seals? do they do a replacement seal kit ?

Kind Regards

Richard

There is thread on here about replacing the rack on an Espace,I'll try and find it and post link from here.

Your best bet is to get a reconditioned rack,as replacing the seals is a specialist job.

The rack is a bit of a nightmare to change, but with patience and a bit of help you should be OK.:)

I have done this on a phase II 2.9V6 it is possible to remove the steering rack without taking of the servo - you do need to take off some of the green fluid pipes which are connected to the steering rack to give you the angle to twist and turn it enough so it will come out of the wheel arch
passengers side, I do remember it took two of us to get it out and it was a sod of a job, when we were just about to give up it slid right out! - We put in a second hand replacement from the scrappy cost was about £35
