hi all, just had a strange rattle grinding started, seams to be at the pulleys, but cant pin point it, also when i was driving, the batt and stop light, flashed up a few times before the noise,its worse on idle but is always there any speed,is there any common faults in this area?

Some alternators have a clutch in the pulley and these can fail, also not unknown for the crank pulley on some engines to give problems.

many thanks for that info,any way to test the crank pulley?or alternator?

If you take the alternator belt off then start the engine and the noise is still there then it's non of those but if it disappears its something driven by that belt, so have a feel at the various pulleys see if you can feel and looseness or roughness, before you take the belt off check how it goes round the pulley and if any of the groves are not used so you can put it back as is, may be worth replacing the belt any way as if they brake they sometimes take out the cam belt.
