While returning home this evening, the car started to slip its drive and wouldn't change up gears when I accelerated away from a roundabout.

About 1/2 mile later it gave up all together and I couldn't get any life from either drive or reverse selections !!

I have found that if I turn the car's engine off and wait for five minutes and restart the car, I can get it about 1/2 a mile before it does it again. I have also noticed that the gear selector display in the instrument cluster does not highlight the gear location.

Can anyone give me a pointer. Thanks

First check must be Oil level. If the Gearbox overheats you will get loss of drive until Oil cools down and regains more viscosity.
Hope it does not become too drastic a problem for you as the ££££'s will mount up with that gearbox.
