Underlying issue for corrosion of 6441L2 wiring harness (heater resistor)

Hi Forum,

I've just pulled my heater resistor from behind the dashboard and found that the 6441L2 wiring harness (2 pin side) was totally corroded. Apparently the heater resistor was changed two years ago when I bought the car so I was wondering if there was any precedent of an underlying issue to cause such heavy corrosion again so soon.

I've ordered the parts and will be replacing this weekend. I've noticed a lack of pictures on the process so if people want these I can log my progress as I repair it. Any tips would be welcome!

Apologies if this was supposed to be under electronics/wiring.

Thanks in advance.

When you changed resistor, did you change harness?
The original harness as fitted seemed to be a little undersized so got hot.
Heat accelerates oxidisation and as wire corrodes, heat increases and corrosion accelerates... rinse and repeat.
If the old harness not replaced at same time as resistor, I suspect that may be your problem.

Ok, managed to pull the unit, replace the wiring plugs, replace the resistor, now I can't get it screwed back in. My hands are just too big...

Guess I'm removing the dashboard tomorrow.

Thanks for the help guys. The pollen filter was black so I'm going to replace that and hope it works.
