Laguna Grandtour rear brake dust shields

Hi guys

My daughters Laguna Grandtour 1.8 from 2002 had failed MOT test due to corroded dust shields on the rear brakes.

I have searched all over the net for replacement parts, but without any luck :(

Any good ideas where to find the spares?

I'm confused as to exactly what part the car has failed on.

As far as I know all the Laguna mk2's had disc brakes on the rear and didn't have dust shields (disc backing plates) fitted?

Cheers.

Not an English MoT then?...
Just looked and capito is from Denmark, so correct :d

I'm guessing it's failed on corroded drum backing plates... so I guess it could be a mk1 Laguna?

Or the mk2's got rear drums in Denmark?

Cheers.

Watched a documentary showing you tests across Europe and I couldn't get over the differences...meant a pass in Spain could be a fail in France yet you could cross borders and drive on there roads:confused:

I think the Eu passes a law but then leaves it to member states on how they apply it.. I read somewhere [cant find the article] that in germany they even test if an Ecu has been remapped..its against the law there apparently and they are curbing the modding scene with dangerous moddifications..

the most obvious get around on that would be to order a replacement coded ECU from the dealership and remap the original and swap them over before and after the TuV test.

i think REMUS and a number of other suppliers across the EU/USA do plug in live remap ECU modules that can be unplugged before the TuV.

Never mind ECU's in that.....what about capito's brakes.... :d

What may be referred to as dust shields on rear brakes serve a dual purpose - apart from catching dust they prevent water and debris (especially small stones) thrown off the front tyres from reducing brake efficiency.

I do know in some Scandavian countries rear brakes on many models must have a shield to prevent snow thrown up by the front wheels lodging on the rear discs and freezing.

In fact many must have at least 3 mud or deflection flaps each side.

My Honda has mud flaps at the rear of each wheel plus another shield plate just in front of the rear wheels even though it has rear drum brakes.

I understand.

I can't help questioning how the tester would know exactly what was fitted to each car, if you see what I mean, do they have a list for each car?

How badly corroded are the dust shields, just wondering if they could be repaired?

Failing that could you not get a set for a different car and adapt them to fit.

Cheers.

Not a list for every single car, but every model. E.g all Laguna Grandtour II (KG0/1_) 1.8 models has specific requirements for approval.

Repair or adapt a set from another car sound like a good solution.
