Hi there Im new here :d

I have recently purchased a 2001 mark 2 xreg Clio

I have noticed that there is a white mark almost in a straight line that runs from my drivers handle then to the door trim and then onto the side of my bumper.

My dad suggested it was paint from possibly a scrape of a garage door from the previous owner.
He has tried getting it off with white spirit and rubbing in circles but it hasn't done anything.

Does anyone know of a product that will remove the white mark?
It makes the car look dirty!

Thanks

Can you take a picture of it, so we can try to determine if it's something sitting on the paint (which can be polished off) or a scratch showing the primer (which can't be polished out)?

Both routes require a different method.

It appears to be all "paint on plastic" which is comparatively lucky.

The scratch from the side wall of a garage door entrance seems as likely as any.
This could mean its not even automotive paint but exterior semi acrylic wall paint .

Have a go with something like cif and a nail brush/toothbrush on a small area of the body moulding.
See what works best.Id leave the door handle until last as its probably the most delicate part.
Perhaps just cif and a cloth or soap and water ,just do a small bit until youre sure the paint is coming off with out damaging the plastic surface.

I know there are products out there to restore the original appearance of mouldings and plastic, but I think they may be just to combat age fading and the effect of uv light.

Vel may have more "pro" suggestions.Thx for the pics.

'Back to Black' will only seal in any paint & won't even hide it, painter's wet wipes are not even any good, I am a painter and i'm forever getting paint on handles if it's wet get it off straight away, if it's gone dry, i think coup's idea is probably favorite.
As for getting the colour back try asking around & see what other people use, I just know that Back to Black, Bumper Restorer etc are just 5 min wonders - don't work.
See if 'Auto Glym' do anything decent down at Halfords.
I'm spraying my bumper panels with Halfords Plastic Bumper paint - Dark Grey - Looks quite good.

I think I may be able to offer a method that won't cost anything.

On a dry, wind-free day (or in a garage), use a heatgun or hairdrier to gently warm the plastic trim section, by slowly sweeping the trim.

This will help restore the colour.

Be careful not to focus the heat too intensely otherwise the plastic will melt.

You really only want the plastic to heat-up, rather than become 'glossy'.

Once it has completely cooled, you can use some >2000-grit sandpaper to gently matt it back to match the remaining trim.

Coupes right looks like wall paint. If I were you id just have a day to spend taking each trim off and spraying them back black. My friend did it to his Saxo vts a few years ago and it looked like a different car afterwards, because theres so much plastic trim on these types of cars its just as important to keep looking tidy as the paint in my eyes. All I know is don't get the back to black bumper stuff I still have a bottle almost full down the garage think I used it once on my old mk4 Astra and it looks good for about 3 days ha.

Further to Vel's and other posts above ^.
I know youve tried white spirit and no luck too,so solvents may not work.
A cloth even with a little cif may be too soft.cif is kind of like tcut, but t cut has I think silicones/polish in it so may leave a white polish residue on !

possibly also try a plastic scouring pad or those cloth pads which have plastic strips in em.Not steel wool thatd be too rough.

If you cant get some of the white paint removed with a lil cif a plastic scour pad and maybe the heating as well ,it must be some really tough paint!

May or may not help but I've got a very similar looking whitish rub mark on my left side rubber strip, also won't come off. Also I think it's not 'paint' actually but surface damage to the plastic or whatever it is, so personally I'm leaning in favour of what VelStatisfied said.
