from what you have described, it sounds like the brakes are sticking on...you will need to have them checked out.

 

is this likely to be the front one?

any idea what causes it so i have a rough idea

 

The handbrake normally only applies to the rear brakes, but that is not to say that any one of them could be sticking on. If they are sticking on even slightly you will be wasting fuel and could be dangerous, causing overheating of the brake pads which would cause a braking failure. I would advise you get them checked out asap

i just need to work out how am gonna get my other car out from in front of it so i can oick the kids up cause it's not budging an inch!

 

sticking brakes would probably free off enough if you tried to move it, maybe someone else can give advice on your problem.

i've tried to move it a few times but it's still stuck and theres a burning smell so i don't wanna push it i've got someone coming over to see if he can help me move it

if you cant drive it but if you can push it manually, I wouldn't think it would be the brake sticking

 

he has managed to get it unstuck and told me he thinks it's my n/s rear brake so am gonna go get it checked out now while it's moveable!

 

Usually a godd hard thump with a hammer to the rear of the drum helps - if not it could be the brake lining has become detached then its a puller off job. Sometimes driving back and forth gently helps.
Happened to me once on an Astra - luckily it had steel wheels and after emoving the wheel cover a single thump of the hammer (2lb) to the wheel was enough to get it freed

 

Sounds like one of the shoe linings has come off and is jammed up against the other one.

The rear drums need removing asap and the rear shoes need replacing.I wouldn't drive the car at all if possible,or at least only a very short distance.

 

i just drove it to the shop and back and i've parked it up as it just doesn't feel right my husband is gonna strip the back brakes down tonight and find out whats going on?

is there a common problem with the brakes?

 

It is not uncommon for the rear linings to become detached requiring them to be replaced

 

that happend on my sisters pug 206 about 4 weeks ago

 

happened to me a few years back on a orion i had ,where the lining came off and got wedged that bad that the wheel would not move at all and getting the drum off was even worse,thank god for rear discs.

well it was as thought the lining had come away from the shoe all fixed once again!

I didn't know about this thread. I'd have said the same though as I have just had my shoes replaced. When the drum came off the linign fell out, ha.
