1.6 Laguna Sport S reg 1998

I went to change the Bulb in the Display as one had go out. I took the blown bulb one out and didn't replace it as i didn't have any. (Should be three in all)
When i plugged everything back in, i got a blank screen.
I have replaced the Display with another one and still the problem is there.
Today i brought a replacment Radio thinking it could be that as read in another thread but no, still blank.

The funny thing is, if i hold a light to the display i can see the text. The bulbs in the replacment Display are fine but seem not to be getting any power. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be before i have to take it somewhere to be fixed.

Thanks Martin

Wierd little bulbs

Hi mmimoletti,
I am just having exactly the same problem. I did NOT disconnect my battery but after this happened I checked the Haynes manual and it tells you to disconnect your battery. I am now thinking that with these being wierd tiny bulbs we may have momentarily made a short circuit that could have knackered the unit (says prayers). I have tried disconnecting the battery so as to start from scratch, put radio code in etc---nothing. I have a little hope at present as I broke 1 bulb and I think the other one is u/s. I used a ohm meter on the bulb but no continuity. I am getting a very very dim read out though, just enough to be able to put the code in. It's rather strange. I have now got to try & find some new bulbs, (pity we do'nt have a Halfords in Spain). I would be Very interested to know any progress on your problem. I have spent hours searching the forum but have drawn a blank. Please keep in touch. Ed.

Hello Ed

I got the car looked at yesterday and got back today.
It was a wire that melted. When the Bulb broke it melted the wire. I have it now working but it cost quite a bit of Labour. Here in the UK it was £190 for 4 hours finding the fault. I know he had to take out the dash to replace the wire.
The problem was he didn't say which wire.
All fuses were ok.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Martin

Hi Martin,
Pleased you got it fixed but sorry about the expense. Sussed mine out now,--both bulbs seem to have blown- I left the cowl (cover) off & went out in the car today, with the bulbs removed and the cover off the sun shines through the holes and the opaque housing. It was well bright enough to see that it is working fine so I know it will be ok when I replace the bulbs. While I had it out I dimantled it and behind the display matrix is a piece of orange thin plastic, it gets quite black on the inside due to the unit being lit all the time, it wipes off dead easy as it's only like soot. I shone a torch through a bulb hole and it is really bright as when new. Problem now sorted.
Thanks for getting back to me. Ed.
