The wife stopped at the lights today and the Auto Engine Stop kicked in as normal but she said it also said "ESC off" on the screen, when she pulled away from the lights the engine started up and the screen said "ESC on". Anyone got ideas of the problem, if it is a problem.

ESC Electronic Stability Control ,Can kick in, in wet conditions (was going to put weather but cant remember how to spell it)could just be,lost a bit of traction, one wheel spinning and the other wheel gripping ,then this kicks in to inform you that the car has taken over, its now becoming a standard fit, its one or more above abs systems ,a safety feature ,at least you know its working

I have a Renault Scenic which, at complete random times, just cuts off - sometimes as i am slowing down, sometimes when i stop at an intersection, sometimes in traffic when i stop behind a car. And when it stops, it shows ESC off. On some of these occasions I lose power steering and brakes, which is very scary.
My car has been to the dealership twice already for this problem and twice it has come back not resolved.
Has anyone experienced this before and if so, can you please tell me what the problem was.
The mechanics have told me that the computer is not picking up any fault and that they have to see it happen for them to know what the problem is. This of course is a major issue as luck would have it, the problem never occurs when they take it for a test drive!

It could be a simple earth either the body earth or the battery earth. Take it off clean up the body and connector and see what that does. The technicians at Renault don’t really have a clue they are not time served mechanics or auto electronic wizards. Any tricky cars get looked at and repaired usually by a specialist they get in same with the paint and dents or wheels.

If the engine actually stops which it sounds like you will loose power steering
and after about 6 presses the brakes as well, if it has a anti stall switch on
the clutch pedal then this could be the problem, it could be loos disconnected
or just plane faulty.

Hello. I also had the same problem with the esc on/off ,the car cut off on a few times by itself , i also went to the dealers and it didnt show anything so they couldnt fix it. In the time i had this problem i noticed that my battery was starting to get weak,it wasnt cranking like when it was new,but i didnt bother with it, i had this problem from time to time until the weather got really cold and my battery died, after changing the battery i havent had that problem anymore,so far 4 months ally is good.
My advice is to check the cranking power of your battery,it could be the same problem.

I am ”listening” in here. I have a Grand Scenic 3 2013.
I experience the same issue. Hot weather, car exposed to heat then the ESC on/off
Issue with random engine stalls comes. following one suggestion in this thread i put in a new battery last year but this have not solved the problem. I will try to switch AC off to see if this helps. have same experience with dealers. They cannot see the fault in the log.

I'm not 100% what the issue is but I took off the throttle body and cleaned inside after hearing Mirko's experience. This seemed to fix the issue completely. It's very easy to remove and took about 20 minutes to remove clean and replace. THIS is the video I watched but I'm sure there's others. Just make sure that you don't try to force the throttle open or even touch it for that matter. Because its an electronic throttle you could damage it by pushing on it.

Just use throttle cleaner and a rag to clean inside and remove any dirt. I also cleaned inside the pipe coming from the air filter(can't hurt).

It's been working great ever since. Hope this helps.

Hi John - just wanted to give you and everyone else an update.
I cleaned the throttle body as described in the video. In the periode this was done i added an engine cleaner additive.
The operation is really as easy as shown in the video. What takes time is getting acces to the throttle body.
Results:
1: the ESC off engine Stall has not happenend since and we are in the main season - warm weather - for these engine stalls where it normally would have happened sevelral times during each drive.
2: Engine is markedly less noisy
3: Engine is running much smoother and stable during idle.
4: Engine uses less fuel

Puzzled that the Renault Authorized mechanics did not suggets this??

Feel like i have a new car.
Amazing.
