Hi,

I had this issue for a while now and it was difficult to get my car through MOT.
I'm not sure what is normal in this car, but handbrake lever required quite a loot of force to pull up. Resistance begins after first ratchet click and it takes a fair bit of force to pull it 5 clicks. At this point car will still roll on a medium incline. I can pull it to 6 clicks and it will hold but on a steeper hill it will still roll. 7 clicks takes an effort.
Even at 7 clicks car will roll forward on first gear and slow clutch release with no throttle.

What has been done:
2 years ago replaced both discs, pads and one caliper (was siezed).
This march replaced both handbrake cables as they were freezeing. All stripped and cleaned, all slide pins free and greased. Reaplaced pads again after driving for half a mile with frozen cables (was binding a bit) as I thought i cooked them.
When removing cables from calipers handbrake lever moves freely with no resistance and just clicks.
Levers on calipers are quite difficult to move by hand, but using mole grips they are free and return to stops properly.

I'm lost now, pretty much everything is new and it's still not holding as it should. When i drove with stuck handbrake for half a mile discs were very hot, could that cause them to become slippery? Or is the problem cheap pads?

Thank for help.
Greg

Try this, send brake pistons back
Refit pads, and calipers , pull hand brake on 3 clicks , now pump the foot pedal until foot pedal is firm with the handbrake on the three clicks
release hand brake , now pump the pedal again, now pull handbrake on, and see if that cures it

its usually down to the stupid worm gear inside them
just wind back far enough to get caliper to go on freely
Then use handbrake to allow worm gear to move piston forward, then use brake pedal

I don't think this worked

I've wound pistons back, put it all together, pumped brake with engine off till firm. Started engine and pumped some more. It felt spongy and was going down when held.
And i think that's when i went wrong. Since it kept going down i released handbrake and went for a drive up and down street. Brakes work fine now, pedal got firm but handbrake still the same.
Should i keep pumping it with engine on with handbrake on 3 clicks until it feels firm and holds firm, before releasing and goin for drive?

Thanks again for the advice.

I've tried again yesterday, this time was pumping fuut brake till it was solid. Then checked brake fluid level to see if it went down to previous level. Then released hanbrake and pumped some more.
Adjusted lever freeplay wih nut in the back of centre console.
It feels better than before, but i will have to go and try on a hill close o work to know for sure.
