Quick Question About Coolant? (Urgent).

Hello,

My vehicle currently uses Renault Type D Green OEM Coolant. I need to change the thermostat housing so I'll loose half the coolant. I've lost a lot of coolant as it is from a coolant leak, hence why the housing is being replaced.

I went to Renault Dealership and they gave me 5L Motrio Renault Group Coolant Colour GREEN. Can I mix this with the OEM stuff safely or will I need to do a full drain?

Thank you.

Link above suggests Glycol based. Research suggests Type D is Glycol based.

I looked into coolants for my motorbike and it was a bloody minefield!

Colour coding is not universal, and in my situation I had to ensure the coolant had no silicates in it. I never got a complete answer, but the important thing will be to use exactly the same "formula". Sorry that is more of a caution than an answer.

I agree. Better to have peice of mind. I decided to remove the front bumper, drain, and flush the system prior to the new coolant. Just need to fill, bleed and put the bunker back on. Thermostat housing installed and ready.

I called Renault earlier and they said both coolants "should be ok" to be mixed. Did not give me entire confidence. They also said type D is to be discontinued as they are moving to type E?
