Hi All,

I was driving my Renault Megane 3 1.5Dci one morning, the engine failed mid journey with the dash saying “Engine Failure Hazard”.

The car has since refused to start, when plugged into the diagnostics a fault code of DF1018 (Computer, Internal Electrical Fault) appeared on screen. There is no sign of any water ingress of any kind of damp etc.

The mechanic proceeded to check the injectors in which they believe a few were bad, we replaced all 4No with no luck. Fuel pressure seems good, fuel checked etc. As a fault finding process we have since changed the cam shaft sensor & fuse box, again still no luck. When easy start is sprayed into the engine it will run until burnt off.

As a last resort we bought an ECU kit from a breakers yard, this consists of ECU with matching codes, BCM/UCH, Key/Housing and steering column. When we have went to install the BCM/UCH there is no option to plug in the blue F connector which is blanked off?

Does anyone know how important this is and would the engine start without it?

Many thanks!

Not a clue sorry.

But should you fit it and the car wont go, you still wont be sure its not because of the UCH is incorrect , or you have another issue..

BUT going to ask, TIMING was checked here.
Turning the key, or pressing stop start button, if Timing belt has failed will give you that fault,

Internal electric fault inside A ECU is not usually the ECU, but a sensor is not being able to be read correctly, as in, its working, circuit is fine, but ECU cannot make head nor tail of it

We are going to plug the ECU kit in tomorrow to see if it will start at least. If however, we get it going, is it possible to code my previous BCM to the car?

Im near certain I got the belt and water pump replaced a few years back. I’ll ask the mechanic to double check this too.

Thanks again for the advice, I’ll update you tomorrow on our findings 🤞🏼

Update: ** Fixed **

We got the car started, turned out it was the ECU after all. The reason the keycard housing was flashing was because the steering column was not fully connected. When everything was connected it fired up. My only issue now is I’ve lost my wireless start ability because of the different BCM.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to recode my old BCM to this and would I be able to use my previous 2 key cards again?

Thanks

Hi there! I have been having the same Engine Failure Hazard fault come up. It has done it on a couple of occasions. Fortunately after removing the key card and locking the car and then getting back in it seems to work. On diagnostic it says ECU internal electrical fault. If we got hold of a second hand ECU and cloned the original would I have to change the steering lock as well or could the replacement ECU be programmed to work with my current steering column/lock and key?

Thanks
Jake
