At those rates it would be worth getting the spanners out and doing a bit of self-service, what you save would go to pay for jobs you can't do ?
 
Hourly rate where I am is 30€ per hour (Portugal). A full service like that with front brake pads included would be around 350€

This is at an independant service or a Renault garage?

Anyway, since I have this thread and so I don't unnecessarily open another one... I heard something weird today, as I'm taking any moment possible to listen to the car when I drive it.

The issue is a ticking sound, very brief, when I engine brake above 35-40 mph (actually above 60 kph, but that's about it). The ticking happens a few seconds after releasing the throttle and lasts for only a few ticks, there's no excess vibrations or anything like that. Starts happening at those speeds in 3rd or 4th gear. Too slow for 5th to try and anything faster than that I can barely hear the engine cause of the wind noise (it's not a very loud ticking).

Anyway, I don't think it's internal, as it's not appearing at certain rpms. My first thought was the injectors and I did manage to find a similar case on some mazda forums, and the cause there was some self-learning procedure by the injectors (don't really know what that means).

The car's going to a mechanic for filter/oil/pads change tomorrow so I'll tell him to listen for that sound, but I was wondering if this is something that might be a known issue on the 1.5 dci?

The ticking is certainly not there during acceleration and there aren't any other symptoms involved.

Throttling up in idle doesn't produce the sound, so clearly there has to be some load involved.

Regarding the clutch, it will need to be replaced soon (though the DMF feels good, shifting is smooth and there are no shakes whatsoever), the pedal is a bit heavy and I can just barely make out a slight grinding noise when the clutch is depressed so most probably a release bearing. Could it cause the ticking when I engine brake? I've only had to replace one clutch kit on all my cars so far, so I'm not too familiar with all the sounds they make when they start to go.

Other than this, still very happy with the car, even the R Link. After finally managing to update it, even the internet works on it now (which supposedly has an unexistant coverage in Croatia). Having weather report in a car is the most useless thing ever, but it's kinda cool to have it working.
 
Independent garage. Some of local independents are much more competent than the dealership. They also tend to have a bit more initiative when it is needed. Downside is you don't have a Renault online service history but that has never bothered me. I just keep a file on all expenditure and work done. Goes back to the days when I used to do everything myself once the warranty had expired. Nowadays I can happily lie under the car for hours with my tools spread over the tarmac, but I can't easily get back up again and I ache for days afterwards.

Never noticed any obvious ticking other than cooling down noises or externally from wheel stations (tyres, discs etc). The latter is usually louder with a window open when driving alongside a wall etc.

I got the car to a buddy who has an independant garage. Did everything for under 300 euros, including Bosch front and rear wipers.

I used to do my own maintenance on older cars, but on these newer ones (we now have this scenic and a 2018 i10), I tend to get them to a service to get a stamp and a bill, for future resale purposes. Plus, these newer engines are covered in plastics and I have close to no patience taking it all apart to get to the fuel filter e.g.

Last thing I replaced on my own was an air filter on the C4. Took me less time to replace brake fluid and bleed the entire system on tge 2005 kalos. Well, not really, but you get the point.

Anyway, the car runs good, the ticking was a one time occurance and my buddy mechanic tells me that dci can have some ticking from injectors (so I was at least on the right track).

Can anyone recommend a good quality shark fin antenna for the Scenic 3? The stock one hits the beams on our canopy so every time we go in or out we take it off, get out of the car, put it back on... I frequently buy stuff on UK Amazon, so preferably a store that's featured there.

As to the shark fin aerial have a look on eBay, search for, strangely enough!, "Renault Scenic mk3 shark fin antenna" plenty on there to look thro.

Haha yeah, searching by that would provide some results.
But I'm sure, though not positive, that there might be some to avoid (weak plastics, bad adhesive, bad wiring). That's the info I hoped to get.

Thanks! Though I kinda hoped that replacing an antenna would be a bit more straightforward :)

Basically, what worries me is that I've never owned a car with satnav before (let alone its own internet connection). So I'm not really sure if I should pay attention to something specific here? It doesn't look like the antenna base holds any GPS receivers on the Scenic, though I have no idea how it gets the (3G?) signal. I see the stock one has what looks like a wire wrapped around the core.
 
Sorry Filip can't help you much as its something I have not have had to deal with and as far as I know the aerial is separate for the satnav signal.

Yeah, I know that on some cars the shark fin cannot be installed over the antenna base as it contains GPS receiver (at least that's my conclusion as to why, the other is dimensions).

Eh, I might be better off just getting a shorter antenna instead of the shark fin.
