hi,

hoping someone can help, ive has some issues with the dreaded "check handbrake" light which ive now resolved (fitted new caliper loom) however in doing so i disconnected the battery (safety first...) so i could do a solid repair job. Trouble is, since doing that, as i left the battery disconnected for 30 mins i have a new message in the form of "check vehicle" and "check stop/start"

the stop start which was working fine before no longer functions? ive had the car to my Renault "specialist" garage who have cleared the check hand brake code for me but the start/stop check vehicle remains and they seemed nonplussed as to why it wouldn't clear?

seems I've created a new problem..... can anyone offer advice? the battery is 8 months old purchased from Halfords and is the proper start/stop type battery for the vehicle. I seem to think i may have read somewhere that the battery has to be programmed to be recognised?

any help appreciated

When you connected the battery did the dash ask you if it was a new battery? Im not sure if this would cause this or not.

You need the codes read but i wouldn't take it to Renault for that. You can buy a decent OBD2 reader for less than what Renault charge just to read your car.

Good luck.

hi,

yes ive just bought a vident code reader to do just that, ill run it again now that the garage cleared my "check hand brake fault" and see if anything else pops up

yes, it did ask if it was a new battery, i selected yes on the stalk

many thanks
Ok .............. there is the problem/cause - it was NOT a new battery.
The BMS is now trying to make itself believe that your lie should be acted upon and simply cannot.......

Chances are you need a proper Renault speaking scanner with a BMS module manager ............. and even then I am not sure its going to help because the charging mechanism/control relies on good battery information

Perhaps you can try this first:

Battery still in the car - stick a good quality battery charger on there and make sure you get the battery properly/fully charged.
Start the car and switch on the headlights with the charger still connected - run engine around 1500rpm for 5 minutes - switch off headlights - keep engine running at 1500rpm for another 2 minutes then switch off engine.
Now disconnect the charger and remove the battery from the car.
Again stick a good charger on it and allow it to charge.

Replace the battery in the car, and with the charger still connected to the battery, again go lie to the car's ECU and again tell it there is a new battery fitted.

Now repeat "Start the car and switch on the headlights with the charger still connected - run engine around 1500rpm for 5 minutes - switch off headlights - keep engine running at 1500rpm for another 2 minutes then switch off engine."

Leave the charger connected and close the bonnet, lock the car and go have a few beers ..................

Hours later come back, first start the engine and THEN remove the charger ............

If you are lucky the ECU will have believed you - the question now will be for how long because the ECU has no idea about the REAL state (SOH and SOC - read on the net about this) )of the battery

after more than a year with this issue, i chanced on your reply and watched the video for megane.... traced the hidden fuse, found it had blown so replaced it and boom.... problem solved!!!!

2 x "Renault specialists" garages couldn't help me at all, so £300 light in trying to resolve it later...

thanks so much for your reply, and apologies for the delay

Renault must have been on one when they came up with that hiding place
