Hello, first time poster. My Renault grande scenic has been playing up. Then it didn't start last week when it was freezing. The man at the garage said it was the start motor and replaced it. It then needed a push start the next day. Gf drove it 250 miles and then we drove it again that night. Overnight it was minus 1 , it hasn't started since. the battery is charged, there's enough diesel. Called a mobile mechanic today and he says it's the starter motor relay , the thing that makes the glow plugs kick in.
The first mechanic mentioned glow plugs too. I have zero knowledge of cars, zero. So please any advice??? I would also hate to be taken advantage of because I'm a girl, over charged etc. I can't even find a starter motor relay for glow plugs on the internet?? Thank you all in advance x

Could you explain a little more on the problem?
You say it won't start, does it turn over but not start.. Or just nothing?
Does the ignition come on?
The starter motor relay and glow plug relay are two totally different parts.
And if you had the starter motor replaced, it would have come with a new relay on it (as it is mounted to the starter body).
If it's turning over but no start then that 'could' point to the glow plug relay.
If it won't turn over, then that could indicate the starter motor relay, but of course it could be so much more.

Does the glow plug light come on and go off on the dash when you put the ignition on?

A push start could also indicate a weak battery!
A good battery should be able to turn the engine over for a good long time in bursts of say 10 secs.
Get someone to check. The voltage on the battery... It should be at least 12.8v and ideally higher.
Anything below that shows a worn battery.

It's a button start not a key, and it makes the most pathetic sound. I'm not sure on any of the other questions. The mechanic said it's the motor that makes the glow plugs work..? Does that help? Can you link me to what kind of piece he's talking about because I can't find what he means xx
