Number 1 and 4 piston will be at the top,
Once you have this set, now look at your crank, you will see what mark you need,

Cam, the two back lobes face up, in the shape of a V
You will then see the Cam marking on the sprocket
Check timing cover for a hole that will show the cam mark when you look through the casing

Always remember no1 cylinder on these engines are at the flywheel side.
Do you have a new timing belt for this engine?
on the new timing belt there should be 3 marks, when you have the crank and cam correctly timed, align the marks on the belt with the marks on the cam and crank, when they align, the 3rd mark should correspond with the mark on the injection pump.

 

The problem is, the engine has a new crankshaft and the key slot for the wheel is different. Therefore i can not use the marks for reverence. The fuel pump wheel has no key slot at all ...,..
So i need the correct positions of the cylinders ( 1 and 4 up- but exactly how far), then put the head on, the cam has some markings( and seem to fit according to ours 2012) and then somehow try to turn the fuelpump and see when it injects fuel into first cylinder...
My biggest issue is where the crankshaft alignment needs to be- the cylinders standing. Only then the belt marks help....
