Renault are helpful as always, in their operations manual they say that if the Adblue 0km and service light indicate due to not topping up (and engine won't start), contact main dealer..... does sound as though would need to plug in a Renault Clip to reset.

A long shot but can't see it will do any harm..... reset service light procedure...generally for reminders such as Oil Change Due.... but if it resets the service light, may allow the system to reset as though topped up from 0.
Reset service light indicator Renault Trafic. From year: 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012.

How to reset service light indicator Renault Trafic.

  1. Switch ON the Ignition, but don’t start the vehicle.
  2. Within 100 seconds of turning the key, push & hold down the accelerator pedal.
  3. While still holding down the gas pedal, push and release the brake pedal twice, then press it a 3rd time and hold it down.
  4. Release brake and accelerator pedals.
  5. Within about ten seconds, the Oil Service maintenance light should turn off.
  6. Now turn ignition OFF, then within 3 seconds switch it back to ON position.
  7. Switch ignition back OFF to complete.
If it does start off the key, leave it running for at least 10 seconds before moving the vehicle...gives system chance to catch up.

Worth asking.... but.....
Had he reported the dash fail to Renault??

If yes and they had the opportunity to fix then to me the logic and warrantee claim stand.
If no, then there is this nasty legal term called contributory negligence which added to another called consequential losses would likely get a loud raspberry and equally large bill.

Please let us know outcome.... I have come across the dealer reset before anecdotally but never seen any details.... pump and adblue CU possibly dead is frightening..... but I do wonder of this is similar to the dealer habit with the older style Electronic Parking Brake systems where they would swap the lot for want of a cable?
