usb not being scanned?

Apologies for the long post...

I've just purchased a used RENAULT GRAND SCENIC 1.5 DCI SIGNATURE NAV (Registered June 2018)

After seeing a DAB "Signal Lost" problem on R-Link 2, and reading several forum posts and articles I decided I'd check if R-Link was in need of an upgrade first.

My System Information shows:
Software release
7.0.24.126

Boot release
5476

After entering my VIN on the Renault connect r-link2 software upgrade page, I was directed to...
Download the update: version 7.0.24.160

I've downloaded the zip file to a Windows 11 box and copied the R-LINK folder containing the extracted files to a FAT32 formatted Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 16GB stick.

I followed the instructions to start the car and insert the stick in a usb port. 5 - 10 minutes later, I haven't seen the expected prompt to update.
It looks like the stick isn't being scanned.

After several unsuccessful attempts using all 4 usb ports, I've reformatted the usb stick and just copied a few mp3 files from my desktop.

I've confirmed all 4 ports can charge my phone.

I've inserted the usb stick in all 4 ports and checked the Multimedia > Media screen
USB-1 and USB-2 are there, but they're "dimmed out".
I assume this means the ports are unavailable?

I also tried copying the same mp3 files to a FAT32 formatted 16gb SDHC card.
Inserting the SD card in the car, I see SD is "dimmed out" in Multimedia > Media

Inserting the SD card into a usb 3 adapter and trying the cars 4 usb ports again, results in the same USB-1 and USB-2 disabled display in Multimedia > Media.

I can't find anything online or printed in R-Link and car manuals telling me what usb and SDHC versions are supported, so I don't know if that's an issue or not.

I'm on the verge of performing a R-Link reset, but I can't help thinking I'd be wasting my time.

Is there an option somewhere that I need to check?

Any thoughts or suggestions will be very welcome.

And of course, when the usb/sd issue has been resolved, I've still got a DAB "Signal Lost" problem.
Is the combination of both problems a sign of something more sinister?

Thanks for the quick reply Mikeyjp.

I'm not sure if there's anything wrong with the headunit as everything else appears to work.
My initial problem is an inability to update R-Link, which led to the discovery that I can't play mp3 files from the USB and SD ports in my car.

To a complete novice like me, who up till now when I purchased this Grand Scenic, had no experience at all of R-Link or USB ports as a data source in a car, it appears the ports are either not being scanned at all, or scanning fails to find the files on the stick or sd card.

I'm looking for advice on how to troubleshoot the problem.

* When do USB-1, USB-2 and SD appear as active data sources in R-Link?
...Is it when a stick or card is inserted even if it doesn't contain files, of is it only when files are read?

* Am I using a USB stick or SD card that isn't supported or is incompatible with the hardware?

* Do the ports have to be enabled/activated in R-Link in a place I'm yet to find?

* Are the ports faulty or incorrectly installed?

I do have a DAB "Signal lost" problem but everything else on the R-Link 2 console seems to work.
I tried to update R-Link before resorting to a full reset.

The update doesn't work. I never see the prompt to perform the update.
It appears the content of the usb stick isn't being read.
Because of that I've tried to play mp3 files just to check if the usb ports work at all.

The usb ports do work to charge my phone but not for playing music.

I understand only the 2 usb ports and SD slot in the front of the car can be used as data source.

I've copied mp3 music files a Windows 11 desktop to:

FAT32 formatted Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 16GB stick
FAT32 formatted USB 2.0 2GB stick
FAT32 formatted 16gb SDHC card.
FAT32 formatted 2gb SD card.

I've tried the usb sticks and SD cards in the 2 front usb ports and SD slots.
Each time I check R-Link 2 > Multimedia > Media screen.
USB-1, USB-2 and SD are there, but they're always "dimmed out".

Is there anything I can do to check if this a "R-Link 2" problem or a AUX USB PORT SOCKET UNIT problem?
