Audio for Laguna Mk1

Hi,

I got the radio code from the dealers for my recent Laguna 2.0s Rti buy, thinking I was at last going to have a car with audio control by the wheel. Alas.

Once the code was entered, I could only get the rear speakers to work. The buttons worked on the lever control and on the unit's fascia. I tried a cassette, which played at first (still only back speakers), but then went silent and just displayed TR2. I switched it off but when I tried to switch back on nothing happened. Blart.

Upon removing the device I first noticed the code written in big felt-tip numbers (blub), then a pound coin dropped out!

The previous owner had kids.

Anyway, I've decided to put this unexpected windfall towards a replacement unit. Any suggestions? Is there a range of part nos I can look at that will fit?

I'd make do with a simple cassette/radio, though an MP3 & CD playing unit would be good.

Have a search on eBay for "renault laguna CD player". theres loads on there. For a mk1 Laguna I guess you'll be needing a pre "tuner list" model, does the tape deck say "Renault Philips" on the front? head units between different cars fit and work perfectly, for example the unit in my Megane came out of a Clio. Good luck!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for replying. The unit is a Blaupunkt.

What's with the 'Tuner List'? I notice this advertised and you advise you get a pre-tuner list unit.

I've seen a few on ebay, but only one that I've marked to watch.

Good to know that the units are interchangeable. I'll have a proper search tonight suitable ones.

Is there a term for the 'stick-operated' (wheel-side control) connector? What should I be looking for to make sure the unit I buy has a socket for this accessory?

Blaupunkt eh? Ive only just noticed yours is a 1996 car, but i would have thought a pre tuner list set would work in your car. However I'm not sure with this! I'm sure someone else will be able to advise on that score, and the name for the connector for the remote control. Does your unit have an in-built display or does it use a remote display on the dash? That will defiantely limit your choice on the factory fit ones (especially second hand eBay jobs) as the ones i see around tend to be lacking an on-board display.

I'll see if I can get a piccie of the connectors on mine to see if they match up with the ones on your car. It doesn't seem it - but I hope anmy of this helps!
