my lag is showing 31.0mpg on dash when running around town which when renault say about 42-47mpg is crap. have put new air filter in, cleaned egr valve which is totally different on 2.0 model and was coked to death (this did improve performance) I also cleaned all pipes from egr to engine and from engine to air intake. anybody got any advice to what to look at next as would be nice in the current economical climate to get better mpg. And before anybody asks I don't cane it everywhere. thanks in advance

you are driving a big turbo diesel round town, and you expect it do do more than 30 mpg? diesels dont do town work. get it out on the open road, and you will see a decent mpg. my 1.9 when i used to have a 2 mile town commute, used to get 28mpg. when i was on the motorway (towing 2 motorcyckles behind me) i would get 48 mpg, when i was unloaded, i would get 55mpg. the 2.0 is about the same, efficency wise, as the old 1.9.

QWAKERS NO OFFENCE BUT 1000S OF TAXI DRIVERS MIGHT DISAGREE AND ALSO RENAULT QUOTE FUEL CONSUMPTION: (Urban) 35.7, (Extra Urban) 56.5, (Combined) 47.1mpg ON THE MOTORWAY DOING 70MPH I ONLY GET 36MPG SO THERES SOMETHING WRONG SOMEWHERE BUT BLOWS ME WHERE THE CARS RUNS SMOOTH NO WARNING LIGHTS NO OIL BURNING NO BLUE SMOKE JUST **** MPG

Hi granadaman, did you get this problem fixed?
I also have a GT 175 that is suffering from the same problem and is sooting up the dpf. The garage thought it was a dpf problem so I had that changed and its still the same. Personally i think a sensor fault is causing the car to over fuel and in turn that is sooting up the dpf. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have already spent a lot trying to get this sorted out.

manufacturers always lie about stated fuel consumption. besides the fact, being within 4mpg of the stated figure is bloody good going for your urban cycle. and as for your motorway mpg, you would be surprised how much difference raising the tyre pressures to the high speed pressures makes, and how much difference a light foot makes, also. i am highly skeptical that there is anything wrong with your car. oh, and i'd appreciate not being shouted at.

On a steady 70mph motorway run (quiet road with cruise control set) you should manage low 50s, or at least high 40s. If you're constantly accelerating and braking due to traffic, then that figure will suffer. You'll probably need to drive at a steady 56mph to achieve the extra urban figure that they quote.

Whether the urban figure is any good is really one of those piece of string questions. If you do a lot of stop-start driving, then that might not be a bad figure. If traffic normally flows reasonably well, then you would expect better economy.

Urban work isn't good for desiels this is fact a 2 or 3 mile run isn't really enough to get the engine warm. This is a fact to get 31 mpg around town isn't really that bad if you wet expecting nearer the quoted figures then it isn't really going to happen you may get another 2 mpg by improving your driving style but I doubt you will see much improvement is it automatic and this has a detrimental effect on fuel consumption around town too

The problem is I know mine can do much better. When the engine is not over fueling I can get 44 mpg+ on the way to work. Other days I struggle to get 30 mpg. I had a new dpf on Christmas eve and after doing less than 50 miles over Christmas it is already reading 30g in the dpf. I am convinced something is causing the over fueling but no fault codes are coming up on the ecu. Well in fact a new code appeared today (DF645) which is a problem with the air intake valve/butterfly, but the problem has been going on for months now and today is the first time this code has come up. Can anyone offer any advice?
