Any recommendations for free Windows and Android software that can use a cheap OBD2 reader? I've been doing some research and have found some forum recommendations have been disappointing as the cut and paste answers don't appear to know that the "free software" requires a registration license that comes with the reader hardware. Early days to analyse and rectify ESP and ABS dashboard warnings.

OBD2 readers and apps only read ECU information, not ABS/EPS information.
For that you will need a decent diagnostic set that can talk Renault and get into the relevant modules.
There is one computer based program that one of our lads has been using to play with light set ups...not sure if free but weren't expensive, I'll see if I can find the link.

Wrt OBD Auto Doctor, are the free limitations similar between the Android and Windows versions? Unfortunately the only comparison table of features between free and paid for is the Android version. Meanwhile testing Windows version.......

I dont think there is a windows version, I think it is purely an Android App, and they are generally pretty limited on the range of things they can accomplish as they have to be able to do what they say to all car manufacturers and therefore only have the range of what is common to all. But it is free and therefore worth a pop to have alook at what it can do for you.

Not proceeding with Windows version of OBD Auto Doctor based on experience on 2 WIN 7 machines!!! When loaded, the trialware software 3.6.0. doesn't provide the opportunity to load car profile. I should have uninstalled it then but hadn't had a problem earlier when using Android Car Scanner 1.39.5. with the Bluetooth only cheap reader. This time the sw clearly ruffled the car with it impossible to switch off when Stop immediately appeared in Red on the dashboard together with passenger airbag warning. Only way to stop rougher running car was to physically pull out reader (not to be recommended) as disconnecting link etc to laptop made no difference. No generic sensor information shown by OBD Auto Doctor despite it saying it was reading. Bluetooth link info appeared fine. The search continues......

Btw the following links I found useful about what I might have been supplied with:
