Re: Megane II Keycard repair instructions / Development

I have measured my non woking card, the coil reading is 55.6 ohm. is this part replaceable
hello there. 55.6Ohm or Kohm? Is very important that difference. If its ohm the coil is good but if its Kohm the problem is the coil and yes, the part is replaceable.

cheers

yes the coil is replaceable. you could try buying one new but i think you would be easier getting a second hand card of ebay and taking the coil of it and soldering it onto your own.

let us know how you get on

THE MEASURE IS 55.6 Kohm i will replace and come back with the result.regards
Hi there,

No need to CAPS the phrase, my question was only to make sure that you're reading the ohmic value correctly...

Its 55.6Kohm then. This way you have one of two problems. The first is easy to see, if the coil is well soldered to the pcb. If it is then we go for problem no.2, the coil it self. I know its possible to find that coil on the market, i saw sometime ago someone selling those and the push-buttons also but i didnt bookmark it, sorry...to buy one key on ebay is your best option right now.

Post your results here.

cheers!

HI THERE
I finally came to a better solution. I found a coil with same wire diameter and rewinded the coil with same wire lenght and it worked. the proplem was the ac casing had a crack and was leaking hot air directly at the card reader witch overheated the card and the coil lost its insulation. this is why a new wire solved the proplem .
regards

See? No need to pay £200+ to get a new card from the Renault "pimp" dealer :d

Cheers

well i have just repaired mine - money saved and a big thanks to the op.....

only thing was i fooked the coil up when opening but luckly we had another card that was fecked so i took the coil out of that one and made one good one.

again thanks to the op

Hi. These are the values I measured.

The coil has an inductance of 2.8mH (2.76mH) and a resistance of 94Ω. I think it is an air core inductor. The wire of the coil I measured to be 0.75mm. I didn't count the number of turns.

Given that the wire gauges below don't match perhaps I measured it incorrectly.

22swg 0.71mm
21swg 0.81mm

[btw k is the symbol for the prefix for kilo not K]

:tumbleweed:

Don't worry fixing this sort of thing will soon not be a problem

Tomalamix or anyone else:

My faulty keycard is down to the coil I am pretty sure. It has a resistance of 56.2K Ohm, but I could not find the break in the wire on the coil therefore I could not rewind it. Has anyone seen these coils for sale online, I have spent hours searching and have found nothing, bar buying a key card from ebay just for the coil.............Any help is welcome!

Hi mate,

Ebay is your best and easier option, order it and then open it and use the "new" coil on your card. The wire must be in some place broken, if not so the resistance woudnt be 56.2Kohm, should be a lot less. You need to take the all wire out from the plastic round thing in order to detect and try to repair that coil.

good luck

tomalamix,
I have a question. I have two cards. I changed the batteries couple of months ago, tested and both was working. One of them is working OK for now, the spare one I tried 2 days ago - it can't open and lock the car but when placed it into card slot the car is running. I switch the batteries between cards but the problem remains. I will try to open and fix it but wanna ask you is it means that I have a cold solder??? Thnaks in advance for your hard work and good pictures.

hi there,

thanks for your appreciation. About your problem the answer problem should be one of two things, the plate that connects to the card PCB is broken or the contact plate have cold solder joint. Both of this problems can be solved but for both you must open your card. As soon as you open it if its the plate broken you will see it immediately, if its a cold joint you must take a closer look but you will see it also.

Good luck
