:dSuccess at last!
After heartfelt prayer...solution!
Took out ECU....again, checked all connections etc.
Car running better but still same problem.
Was just about to check out six cables from throttle body to ECU for continuity when a friend suggested start engine and disconnect throtle body cable.
Did that and engine became lumpy and eventually shut down.
Diagnosis...cable is OK.
Took out throttle body...again!
Took out four star screws and gently prised the lid off trying not to break anything...these are 250 all up fitted from Renault.
A flat piece of the inner black lid breaks away which needs to be put back into place on re assembly.
Inside the cap had a greasy film with lots of carbon deposit, sprayed out and thoroughly cleaned.
Next there are four contacts that look like metalic eyelashes that make contact with with the inside of the cover, carefully cover over the rest of the throttle body and spray clean without getting any contact cleaner on the electrics, then slightly bend them upwards so that when you replace the cover it makes good contact. The black piece needs to be put back exactly in position, clean off rubber seal, replace lid carefully and hold firmly in position whilst screwing in four star screws.
Replace throttle body.
So, after replacing the pump in fuel tank, complete fuel rail including the fuel regulator...all bought from Renault Specialist for 300, a new set of spark plugs, cleaning of ALL sensors, spray cleaning all engine wireing connections, dismantleing the throttle body, and feverent prayer my Laguna now runs like a rocket, it is the best that I have had this car going...and the bonus...I know how to service my car...properly.

Put it all back, fired up car, started first time. Left idleing for 10 mins, noticed orange engine light on dash board, went for a spin....great, after about 20 mins stopped to talk to someone...started up again....BANG! It all lights up again...limp mode home!

After doing some extensive research onthis forum I have removed and cleaned up the ECU and contacts, removed throttle body and cleaned, removed TDC sensor and cleaned. Replaced spark plugs with Renault plugs. When purchasing the plugs inormed Renault of the cars problems and was informed that it was an ongoing problem and that I should talk to Renault customer care and state that I knew there is an ongoing issue with this. The service department checked that I did not need a ECU update and told me that the car probably needed a 'clean up'. I will put it all back tomorrow and fire it up.

I have a Renault Laguna 2 2002 F5R 2.0 IDE
It was working fine until one day whilst I was driving the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and then the engine shut off. I waited for about ten minutes and then restarted. I managed to get home, approx 9 miles and had to restart about two or three times.

AA diagnostics = fuel problem. Changed my plugs (Bosch @ Halfords)

I have changed the fuel pump/filter unit that sits in the fuel tank, the complete fuel rail + injectors + fuel pressure regulator.
Same problem but now the car can start from cold, I can leave it idleing for about 15 minutes reving occassionally....no problem...then there is a moment when the engine is hot and the SERV + management + a few others and it shuts off. At that point I can restart but the vehicle goes for about 50 yards and shuts off.
I have searched the forum but I have not been able to find a similar topic, pulling my hair out, can someone please help!
