Hi, i have put a deposit today towards buying used Renault Scenic 1.2 TCE 2012. But when i came home i have found on the internet the article in which they inform that probably this engines have some fault which makes engine to overconsum oil which lwads to loss of power and may damage the engine. So i am now really concerned now of this was a good choice. Also am not sure if i am able to check the car somehow before i pay full price as my knowledge about cars is very limited. What are your opinions about this engines and models? Any tips for checking it before i buy.

I'm in a similar position, just agreed to buy a 2016 Scenic with 1.2 TCE engine. However, the reports that I have seen were published around May 2019, following an investigation by the French press. I have not seen any reports since then. I would have thought that the British motoring press would have picked up the story by now. Anyone seen any more recent reports?

Same engine was in Jukes and Qashqais, check the Nissan reports as well.

There seems to be an acknowledgement that the engines were suspect and something has been done.
But that still means that there are suspect ones out there.
If buying, any sign of a timing chain rattle, run away, any sign of regular oil top up (oil spills around filler for instance) run away.

To me, little engines with high advertised power are a con anyway but that is personal opinion.
