could someone poss send me a pic of their speedo plug( red one) from 1.9 trafic 2004 plate ish, as think speedo signal is different on later models. My project van has no speedo, work under self test though. Also checked wiring all way from gearbox speed sensor back to speedo, no breaks.]

tried new sensor no good. But 2 things are worrying me. I have two loose wires coming off the red plug both with their crimp/contacts on (one purp one grey) and other thing im not happy about and maybe a red herring, but there are two wires coming of the red plug that look like someones addition/not factory. these wires go across to passenger side, through large grommet in bulkhead and end up connected to a green plug with a yellow pull up locking device.

I suspect the green plug is poss ABS plug. but not sure van is ABS. from what ive gathered, vans with the speedo sensor on gearbox are non abs.

Help.

Also poss not connected, keep getting glow lamp warning light on and lack of power. Now i know this is a common problem, and it seems no one knows the actual cause. Seen many a suggestion, and a lot of guess work, but from my research into this, ive not seen a difinitive answer yet.

And just to make matters more complicated, apparently last owner did an engine and gearbox swap so is now 6 speed, still has gearbox speedo sensor though. is the box swap to a 6 gear part of the prob? ive no idea if van originally was 5 or 6.

And a little P.s.
why is it when i look online, if i do manage to find a pic of the speedo red plug, the wiring is a different colour?
most posts or pics go on about the signal wire being the green one.
there is no green wire on mine😂
Also the 2 wires that are loose 1 purp 1 grey both meter as being just ground.
its all v weird.

I now dont know whether to carry on getting the gearbox speedo signal working or to fire this off and try and get it working off ABS, what have others done in this situation that actually works?

Start with the easy one.
Glowplug light and lack of power is Renault speak for an injection fault.
That is something on the fuel feed/injection system that the ECU is not happy about.
There is no definitive answer as the root cause can be a number of things.
If generally on acceleration, suspect fuel filter.
Could also be leaking air into the feed lines, leaky injector, pump issues, fuel rail sensor.......
One of those that a decent diagnostic (which may not be possible via OBD given age) could help pinpoint.
But a coating of looking at and simple checks could resolve.
Change the filter, ensure connections are good and sealed, injector leak off test, any sign of air in the feed system?

Speedo is a larger can of worms.
Has your van got ABS?
Which isn't a guarantee that the speedo would come from that but at least gives us a clue.

ok been out 4 another play, lack of power prob sorted i think, vacuum pipe off boost solenoid doofrey.
wondering if glow plug warning light was connected and may go out in time now, van pulls like a train now,
still no speedo though.]
and cant remeber if i mentioned this, but removed after market stereo and this made no difference.
cant 4 the life of me see how stereo wiring can have owt to do with speedo or anything else though

ta 4 reply as youll see power prob hopefully sorted.
all i know so far is speedo sensor is in gearbox as to whether that is still current i dont know, also dont know if van is abs or not? on vags you can enter vin and it gives you build info as whats fitted or not etc, anything like this on these?
or am i going to have to rag a wheel off?]
surely i should be able to see an abs pump in the engine bay maybe? where abouts?

Has anyone got wiring diagram for speedo and the pin out for it? I cant believe how hard it is to find info for this on line.
with other cars ive had you can usually google and find owt you want.

Im going to try today to Jerry rig a wire from the speed sensor in the engine bay to the correct pin on the speedo and see if anything happens.
I was under impression initialy that the red plug on speedo was the one with the speed signal going in?
Now have come across some info that suggests its on the larger grey one?o_O:unsure:

Will take a pic of my plugs, so peeps can see the offending 2 loose wires. and also a pic of the mystery engine bay plug, with its poss moody twin wire looks diy feed. Think this plug is summat to do with ABS even if van is non ABS o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O
