If you are in England, Engine Management light is an Advisory,, not a fail.
As long as your emissions pass, you should be ok,,.
If your emissions do fail ,, make sure you get a read out, then you can always pop it on here, for us to see if it is just the lambda giving you an issue...

Chances are, if it was an ecu fault, he would have been able to clear it, if it wont clear, would be blaming the sensor,.
Some sensors last for years, others not so long,,
Not burning oil. or using water are you..
Or have a hole/leak in the exhaust, these kill lambdas, very quickly

 

we have already changed the down stream one after the cat about 10 months ago and when he checked it again today on the machine that is the one that is showing up, plus he was unable to remove the fault with the machine, any suggestions, many thanks x

 

Thats ok, wasnt sure if you had two from your initial post,.
The down stream oxygen sensor is the one after the cat, .
The upstream is either in the exhaust manifold, or around 9 to 12" down,,.
The downstream one, will be the lower one .. past what looks like an exhaust box..

 

my car does have 2 sensors, one at the front of the exhaust and one further along. the guy said it was the down stream oxygen sensor also mentioned open or short circuit. i didnt have a clue what he ment being a woman lol x

 

Does your engine have two of these fitted.
If yes it could be the other one.
Did the diagnostic guy, not say if it was an open circuit, slow switching, or was it just a diagnostic read out with no other info...

Can not say if its a faulty unit, or wiring, sorry.
Would the code clear, or was that not tried?

 

thank you for your reply. my husband has already changed this one about 6 months ago. the engine management light went out after 2 or 3 days , came back on about a month later but the car has been running great.had it checked out again on the diagnostic machine today and the downstream oxygen sensor showed up again. could it be a bad connection or a faulty part, many thanks

 

You are not on your own on that,,,..
You need to find your exhaust pipe, follow it down, and it looks something like this,,

Not saying this is your lambda, but this is what it looks like

 

My clio is a 2004 1.2 8 valve authentique. The number is the fault code. I am new to all of this sorry havn't got much idea, many thanks. Took me ages to work out how to reply lol x

 

What year is your clio,,, size engine,, that number, is it the fault code number
