No, but it's normal to release updates for any system involving software, which provides improvements, and fixes bugs. A car's software is probably one of the most complex systems on the planet. It's natural to assume that they would improve things over time.

 

I might give a garage £90 for some improvement provided they could tell me what exactly was getting improved and when it had been rolled out so I could figure out if I already had it.
Asking ninety quid for unspecified improvements with no way to tell if it had already been done or not so no way to know if there was a difference or not......................... pure nonsense.
If the software is needing fixing there will be a vehicle recall. I suspect that these software visits are little more than a data collection exercise from their mobile lab which you imagine is your car and you are paying for the privilige of giving them the data they are harvesting.

 

Totally agree. So my reluctance to hand over 90 notes for virtually nothing led me to ask the experts here.
But you can bet that Renault know exactly what s/w releases went out for my car, without having to plug in the diagnostic computer. But rather than hand over that information freely, they have to gouge £90 out of me.
How about they tell me if there's a s/w update available, and then I'll think about handing over money for the update, if I think it's worthwhile.

I only ask the question because the dealer said this type of check was done on a service. However the cost of their services are so eye wateringly high, I don't go to them.
