hello all,

new here and looking for help desperately looking for help.
i recently bought a very used 02 plate megane from a big brand name and i appreciate it was a cheap-ish trade in, but.
the gearstick wobbles and bounces all over the place when accelerating / decellerating, now i know this can be due to engine / gearbox mounts so a friend has replaced them all, bottom and two on the top and the problem still persists, on occasions it makes a short sharp slap when changing gear ( like short metal on metal slap / snap )
anyone any ideas???
it has numerous other problems for different forums, at the moment this major megane is a proper pig in a poke!

looking forward to your help - thanks

hello n wellcome,
11 years old .. whats the mileage?

Could be wear in the linkage,or transmission /drivetrain.

I recently had the loan of a 2001 passat, gearlever was sloppy, moved back n forthmaybe half an inch on acceleration /decelleration and there were "clunks" from the transmission, synchro was also gone on 2nd and to a lesser extent on 4th.
Engine seemed good tho :)

Without knowing the mileage, and unless there is something obvious like a lot of play/something broken in the rotation and movement mechanism of the lever itself,it could be just overall wear.

It may be worth applyiong the handbrake firmly and in first gear let out the clutch gently whilst someone watches the engine for movement.

Did you friend check the bolts on the engine top mounting bracket to the engine were secure and none broken?
