Hi Experts

I am struggling with a problem I have had over the last few weeks. The Clio is intermittantly cutting out when driving (car can drive 50 miles before cutting out).

I then find that the car wont start again until left for 5 mins. If I try and start it before then it tries to turn over but engine does not fire.

I have had the TDC (crank) sensor replaced and the CTS Coolant temperature sensor replaced but this has not helped. The CTS replacement seems to have improved things however.

Only thing I notice occasionally is that the reg temperature warning light may flash on and off quickly - but this does not happen very often. Engine temp guage is in the normal just under half position.

Not sure what else I can do - I hope someone can offer some assistance!

Many Thanks
Mark

How exactly does it cut out? Is it as you drive along or when you come to a stop/slow down for traffic lights/roundabouts/junctions etc?

I'd a problem like this in my Laguna a few years ago and it was because the breathing pipes and throttle body had become clogged up with oil/crud.

I took the pipes off and cleaned them along with the throttle body with carb cleaner and it was like a new car after and it sorted the problem, which was that there was not enough air getting into the engine to ignite the fuel so it would stall.

Hi

Many thanks for your reply.

It cuts out whilst driving - I was going 70mph on the motorway that last time it happened.

I have never seen it cut out whilst stopping/slowing down etc.

Does that mean it could be throttle body?

Thanks

Many thanks for the adivce so far..

I have kept a close eye on the problem, and it cuts out just after starting up the car sometimes other times while do 70 mph.

I have the car booked into a reanult speciliast so will update you when I get some more information.

In the meantime any more advise would be good.

Thanks

I think you might be onto something with the fuel pump. I started the car today a number of times and after a few seconds it cut out. I then listened and could hear the fuel pump primeing over and over without me doing anything.

I then turned of the ignition and turned on and heared the pump prime. Then it started priming over and over again 3-6 times (on its own). When I hear it prime the yellow "coil" and red "water temp" light flashed on and then off.

Even though it did this the car did start every time.

Hope this helps....
