Hello,

Been having problems with the clutch on my 94 espace recently.
It's rediculously stiff and snapped the clutch cable about a month ago, and the pin holding the clutch pedal on it's shaft yesterday.

I mistakingly removed the clutch pedal shaft (which the brake pedal also sits on) and all manner of washers, springs etc fell off. The problem is I don't have a clue what order to put them all back in!

Does anyone have a diagram of the clutch/brake pedal assembly they could send me please?

Cheers,

Skov

espace clutch

Hi all

Have been looking through the threads, did you find out what was making the clutch pedal stiff? I to have had this problem, bought a new clutch kit and cable got all the way to disconecting the cable from the leaver before dropping the bellhousing off to see that the inner cable lining had come loose and compresed over time. this had the effect of not being able to change gear.

I replaced the cable with the new one and everything felt fine so did not carry on to change the clutch itself. Have now been driving for a week and found that the clutch pedal is again stiff but unable to see why.

anyone any ideas please

So, is the Clutch the achilles heel of older Renaults?

How can a clutch get stiffer after use when you would by natural progression expect it to get weaker, the springs giving up some of their strength? OK I can see cable windings breaking as causing the problem as they compound within the cable casing.
Clutch plate wear cannot affect pressure surely? Has a technical bod given any answer to what appears to be a common problem especially on Clios? Are the Clutches all the same for the various model cars?

Day one of ownership, am I already looking at yet another possible area of expense!!

clutch problems

hi

Thanks peanuts

I have a 2ltr inj petrol Espace on a J plate (91), I bought the car 13 months ago, looking back through the records that came with it, it appears that it had a new clutch and cable with bracket fitted in July 2006.
As i said before could not get gear last week RAC came out and having pressed the clutch peddle said that it was my clutch. Although i thought the problem was the cable.

I have replaced the cable and can get all the gears, although there is a bit off grinding in third sometimes but does get easier when warm.

The peddle is still stiff to depress, took it to a local garage and they said it was light to them and that they had have had a lot worse. quoted £276 to change plus parts said that they can not use the clutch kit that i bought as they only fit a certain type.

I would be a bit miffed if i spend all weekend doing the clutch myself only to find no differance in depressing the clutch peddle.

Any ideas what to do next

Thanks
