Coolant/antifreeze question.

Hi dudes,

My coolant is running low. It's an orange colour. I know I shouldn't be mixing it with other stuff. But, can I put pink/red antifreeze to top it up with?

I know blue and pink don't mix. But orange... Never seen it before.

I thought that too. But it looked not too bad. I was reading about coolant and orange was an option which was OAT I believe. And yeah, there is a very slight leak. But I haven't had the time to find where it is yet. I'll need to follow the pipes and see if any of it is wet. Hope I don't have to remove this bleedin bumper.

Orange sounds like old Renault coolant...should be quite a vibrant pink/gold colour but goes orange when mucky.

You don't say what car or age but if coolant is older then 5 years, drain flush and refill, it's past its use by date.

On colours, they mean sweet fanny adams.
Sorry to be blunt but tis true.
The colour is only something that makers stick in.
While many of the older ethanol based are green or blue and OAT pink, don't rely on it.

Renault coolant is an OAT based coolant
You can mix with any other OAT with reasonable safety but not with older ethanol based coolants.
I'm looking at flushing my coolant. You actually posted instructions on a previous thread and it sounded relatively easy. Halfords actually provide a service for a drain and refill for £37!! I'm quite tempted to take them up on their offer. My car is a 2004 megane Dci with 131k on the clock so I don't think it'll last another year. May as well go cheap.

Your system only takes 5.5 litres complete, .
You will only get a max of 3 litres put in by Hfrds
Unless its already 50/50 diluted at that exorbitant price.
Buying 5 litres, then using 3 litres to do the job, leaves you 2 litres for any time to fill up, should you have to do anything to the water system.
Explain again, how do they get all the old fluid out?
Could they, would they?
