Megane - Sloshing noise

 

Read this thread, it's probably nothing to do with the head gasket............

The linked thread seems to identify issues with a leaky head gasket forcing water back through the system or water collecting under the dash due to blocked drain holes.

I suspect the car has now experienced both issues. Both issues probably sound very different 1st hand but sound similar when described. Since I experienced the first and sister in law experienced the second without cross-over we likely incorrectly assumed it was the same thing.

Anyways, she has investigated further and it seems its most likely water collecting in under the dash due to blocked drain holes. She isn't too handy herself so has dropped it into a Renault garage for them to clear it out.

When the car is stationary and with a cold engine give it a good old prod on the accelerator. The sloshing noise will coincide with the engine revving if it is an air lock or HG problem, and will probably (hopefully!) make no sound if it is a drain blocked problem.

I have recently had this problem on my Megane Coupe 2000 reg. For a few weeks it has sounded as if there was water sloshing around the passenger footwell behind the glove box when accelerating and braking. Had a good look under the bonnet yesterday and couldn't see anywhere water could get trapped. I then remember a friend telling me water can get trapped in the sills. I got on the floor and had a look under the passenger side sills and just before the rear wheel arch starts there is a rubber grommet. I popped this out and about a gallon of water rushed out. I left it out all day while driving to drain completely.

Now thats an interesting one which I didn't know about! Any chance you can take a photo of this thing I need to pop out so I know what it looks like?

I tried bleeding our cooling radiator and that was pointless. Our HG has gone but I still suspect there is water in there somewhere else.

 

Hi Jimmy - now you have got the water out but hows it getting in - I suggest you check behind the plastic inner guards on the front as the crud tends to gather in there

if your hg has gone there is no point bleeding it as its gonna keep building up and slosh again get the head done first otherwise more problems will arise
