No power since Turbo replacement **Solved**

Afternoon guys,

I've pitched up at a campsite with a friend who has a 3.0 140 dCi Master (2004) who's struggling with power issues.

In June, his turbo blew and he had it replaced with a reconditioned one. The mechanic claimed no parts of the impeller had gotten loose (based on how much he extracted from the original).

Back to cuurrent day, we decided to take out the intercooler on site and cleaned it out and obviously found a bunch of little metal fragments that don't look to be part of the intercooler.

The intercooler did have a lot of oil in it too.

We've since reinstalled the intercooler and taken it out for a run.

Not much better.

As it stands, there is little power until around 2200rpm, at which point the engine becomes noticeably loud and gives a subtle increase in power.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Ah OK, I can see the misalignment, just not sure what the part is that I'm looking at?

Sorry, I'm not all that experienced.

Is that the gasket between the EGR and the turbo?

Neither of us is confident about removing the turbo.

Is it a simple job, or does it require some sort of calibration?

We only have a limited amount of tools and experience between us.

Thanks for everyone's input.

That looks like the part that bolts to the side of the turbo , but it could be from below to get at it..
AS the turbo has been off within the last 6 months, will come off easy..
But you are not taking the turbo off just the exhaust to the turbo, so same applies here ... as in... it will come off pretty easy.

***SOLVED***

So, he finally took it to a second garage who suspected a problem with the EGR (as was mentioned).

£160 and a new 'Mass Air Sensor's later, it's all fixed!

Turns out that the turbo going must have affected the previous sensor which meant the EGR valve was staying open.

This meant not enough pressure was being built up in the turbo. This the turbo was doing almost nothing.

Now that the valve is functioning properly, it goes like a rocket.
